Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

Trading Ben Simmons to the Sacramento Kings and getting De’Aaron Fox in return is a massive upgrade for the Philadelphia 76ers, but adding Buddy Hield still does not make much sense. He is definitely a valuable three-point shooter, but in no way is he better than Seth Curry in terms of value to this 76ers’ franchise.

Curry is cheaper cost-wise, is a slightly better shooter, and has been around in their system for over a year now, so he is comfortable with his role. Trading him away and bringing in Hield would not only screw up things chemistry-wise for this team, but they would be downgrading in the sense that they would have to pay Buddy Hield a lot of money for the next few seasons.

De’Aaron Fox is definitely the missing piece on the 76ers roster though and by moving Ben Simmons for him, the 76ers would be a team to beat in this league.

Joel Embiid is going to be an MVP candidate once again, but he really does not have a reliable second scorer next to him. Tobias Harris holds a big role for this team’s chances to be successful, but he is definitely a much better third-scoring option than a second one.

With Simmons being on the team, Harris has to step a little bit out of his comfort zone at times on offense and as a result, can struggle from time to time.

Adding De’Aaron Fox to this team not only gives Embiid that second scorer to lean on, but the 76ers would have someone that they can be reliant on to facilitate and create opportunities for others, including Harris who would now be a secondary thought to opposing teams, even though he himself is a high-level scoring talent.

Just taking on Buddy Hield’s contract in this trade may be something the 76ers would have to think long and hard about, especially if it would give them the chance to land De’Aaron Fox in a potential trade. At this point with the season set to begin, Fox is the best talent Philadelphia can get for Ben Simmons and he would fit in perfectly.

Not only is he an up-tempo guard who loves to push the pace of play, but De’Aaron Fox is only 23-years-old and has a ton of upside to continue growing in this league. Simmons does not want to be in Philly and as a result, the Sixers would be much better off just moving him now for the most amount of value they can get to just resolve this toxic situation.
