How This Trade Impacts Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have a large piece of their puzzle missing with Kyrie Irving not being with the team. If they opt to try trading him instead of waiting things out, the Dallas Mavericks could be a good landing spot.
Finding the salary to match with Irving and a team that would want him is not an easy task. But, Dallas has a player that could be the centerpiece of a return deal in Kristaps Porzingis.
Dallas has reportedly been looking to move on from him and the Nets could be willing to take a chance on him. Brooklyn would have to make sure that he and Trey Burke are both vaccinated, otherwise, they’d be stuck in the same place they are with Irving.
Porzingis would help solidify the team’s frontcourt. Last season, especially during their playoff run, the frontcourt was depleted. DeAndre Jordan didn’t play a second in the playoffs, pushing Jeff Green into a prominent role at the center position.

James Johnson and Paul Millsap were signed to help shore things up, but neither have the potential impact that Porzingis would. Porzingis would be an excellent third-option offensively given his shooting ability. He would take full advantage of the attention being given to Kevin Durant and James Harden and punish teams that put small players on him.
While he isn’t the best defender, he is a solid rim protector. His addition would enable the Brooklyn Nets to play Durant at small forward more as well. That could save him some wear and tear during the season so that he doesn’t have to bang with bigger players on a nightly basis.

Burke would provide Brooklyn with another option at the point guard spot, giving them some more scoring punch from their backcourt.
Porzingis has his own red flags, but he has immense potential. Brooklyn would be hard-pressed to receive a player with his talent in exchange for Irving at this stage.
