Things have not started well for the Los Angeles Lakers during the NBA preseason. The team has struggled to find any consistency, which was expected since they have so many new players finding their way with the team.
Right now, the Lakers are 0-5 and there haven’t been many positives to pull from the games. They have lost four out of the five games by at least 12 points and two of them by 26+.
Granted, these are likely not the rotations that Frank Vogel is going to be using once the regular season rolls around. But, it would still be encouraging to have some positive momentum being built heading into the regular season.
While people harp on the results of the preseason games, the Lakers themselves aren’t too worried about them. Russell Westbrook has been a main topic of discussion, as he has struggled mightily in his preseason appearances.

Alas, LeBron James remains unbothered by the preseason results. He is more worried about what is taking place in practice sessions leading up to the regular season than what happens in exhibition games.
“I care more about the practice court than I care about the preseason games,” said LeBron James. “I’m not gonna learn anything from the preseason at this point in my career. Nothing. Zero.”
At this point in his career, he is probably right. He is entering his 19th season in the NBA, while Russell Westbrook is embarking on his 14th season. There isn’t anything for the team to gain from these preseason games other than the team-building chemistry in-game situations.

But as LeBron James has pointed out, the practice reps are what matters for the Los Angeles Lakers. That is where the Lakers will gain the most as they can work on specific things to get them ready for the season.
The team needs those practice reps as they are already dealing with multiple injuries. Trevor Ariza and Talen Horton-Tucker both underwent surgeries, while Kendrick Nunn and Malik Monk are both dealing with injuries as well.
