Early signs of Cam Thomas’ potential are there
Cam Thomas was drafted 27th overall by the Brooklyn Nets this offseason and enters the league as one of the best scorers in college last year. In his freshman season at LSU, the 6’4” shooting guard averaged 23.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and shot 40.6% from the floor, 32.5% from three-point range.
His shooting splits definitely do not look that impressive, but at the same time, Thomas was averaging over 17 shot attempts per game and close to 7 three-point attempts per game in college.
Finding out what he could do against NBA-level talents was key for the Nets this summer and they got a glimpse of the scoring potential this kid has in Summer League.
Once again, Thomas proved to be an elite-level scorer, as he ranked first in scoring amongst all players in Las Vegas Summer League this year, averaging 27.0 points per game and shooting 42.3% from the floor.

At just 19-years-old and already having a “score-first” mentality, Cameron Thomas is in the best spot possible on the Brooklyn Nets roster because he has the ability to learn from some of the greatest scorers of this generation in Kevin Durant and James Harden.
In fact, he has already impressed Harden with his play during training camp. “Obviously Cam was a much better scorer than I was coming out of college,” the former league-MVP stated this preseason. “It’s just rare you get those guys who can just get a bucket in any form or fashion. But he’s young, he learns, he listens and he works his butt off. As a young guy, that’s all you can ask for.”
