How This Trade Impacts Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are craving a big move. They have new leadership in place, as Gersson Rosas was fired near the end of September. What better way to make an impression at a new job than acquiring a multi-time All-Star in Kyrie Irving?
Figuring out a package to build for Irving is difficult. Given his lack of interest around the league, what the Nets would be looking for compared to what they’d receive probably is a large gap. But, the Timberwolves would have a pretty intriguing package with the three younger players they could offer in D’Angelo Russell, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid.
But, Minnesota would have to do a ton of vetting beforehand. They do not have the same mandates to deal with as the Brooklyn Nets, so Irving would be eligible to play in every game.
All of the uncertainty surrounding him would justify Minnesota not including a draft pick in this deal, as they would be the ones taking a major risk. The question remains, though, would he play for the Timberwolves?

If he would agree to play for them, this trade would be a no-brainer for them to pull the trigger on. Minnesota would have a potent scoring trio with Irving joining Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards as the new foundation of the team.
Irving would bring invaluable experience to the team given his extensive playoff and championship resume. He would help legitimize a franchise that has missed the postseason 16 out of the last 17 years. An appearance in 2018 is all that is keeping the Timberwolves from having sole possession of the longest postseason drought in NBA history.
