How This Trade Impacts Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have to decide if they want Collin Sexton as part of their long-term plan. If not, trading him is the route they should take so that they can at least get something of value back for him.

If they were able to get this trade package from the Knicks, they would jump at the opportunity. Given the fact that Sexton is still on his rookie deal, matching salaries and getting fair value back isn’t easy. Unless the Cavaliers wanted to expand the deal to include someone such as Kevin Love.

In this scenario, they hit a home run. Immanuel Quickley has immense two-way potential and his ceiling is even higher if he can demonstrate the ability to play point guard at a high level. He is already an excellent source of scoring and defense with the second unit.

The Kentucky product could slide into the starting lineup alongside Darius Garland in Cleveland. The first-round pick in 2023 is a nice asset for the Cleveland Cavaliers to extract from New York as well. They would be getting two building blocks for their foundation by moving Sexton in this deal and save a lot of money as they wouldn’t be handing him an extension.
