How This Trade Impacts New York Knicks
The New York Knicks have done an excellent job building up its roster and compiling assets. They are in a great position to make a trade for an impact player, and earlier in the offseason, Collin Sexton would have made sense as a target. Now, however, this trade wouldn’t be one the Knicks should consider making.
Immanuel Quickley has better two-way potential than Sexton does. Sexton’s size limits him defensively, while Quickley can defend both backcourt spots and is long enough with a 6’10” wingspan to stick with some wing players as well.
Quickley remains steadfast in saying that he can play point guard, and if that turns out to be true, he has a higher ceiling than Sexton. Trading him, along with a future first-round pick, would be a short-sighted move.
When trading for Sexton, you have to also account for the contract extension he will be receiving. The Knicks have done a magnificent job cleaning up their salary cap situation. Handing a lucrative deal to Sexton would handcuff their ability to make moves the next few offseasons.

It would also be shocking to see New York part ways with Taj Gibson. He is a favorite of head coach Tom Thibodeau and re-signed with the Knicks for two straight offseasons. His presence on the team means a lot more than some people outside the organization realize.
Ultimately, this is a deal the Knicks would decline. They’re surrendering too many assets and cap space for a player that doesn’t add anything they can already get from Kemba Walker and Derrick Rose. Now, if Walker is unable to recover his previous form, the landscape of the deal would change a bit.
