For the first time in their team’s 55-year history, the San Antonio Spurs missed the NBA playoffs in back-to-back seasons and it appears as if they could be in store for another long season during the 2021-22 year.

With DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, and Patty Mills departing in the offseason, the rebuild is on in San Antonio, but not all hope is lost.

Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Lonnie Walker IV, Keldon Johnson, and others highlight an intriguing group of young talents for this team to build with moving forward, but it will definitely take time for the Spurs to once again reach their full potential.

DeMar DeRozan was moved via a sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls and in return for DeRozan, the Spurs received Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, a first-round pick, and two second-round picks. Aminu will likely be waived before the start of the regular season by San Antonio, but Thaddeus Young is in an interesting situation.

He is coming off a really great all-around season with the Bulls last year and Young has kind of been thrown into a similar situation that Al Horford was in last season with the Thunder, except Thaddeus Young is in the final year of his contract, whereas Horford still had multiple years left.

The veteran forward on the Spurs still has a lot left to give and could definitely impact a handful of playoff threats around the league, which is why San Antonio could look to trade him.

Thaddeus Young is coming off a year in which he averaged 12.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, and shot 55.9% from the floor, making a team like the Utah Jazz potentially interested in him.
