The Golden State Warriors are counting on Klay Thompson to return to the court at some point this NBA season and help them win some basketball games. It has been a while since Thompson has been on the court and the Warriors hope that changes sooner than later.
Thompson hasn’t played in an NBA game since the 2019 NBA Finals. In Game 6 he tore his ACL, which sidelined him for the entire 2019-20 season. With the COVID-19 pandemic delaying the season, Thompson had some extra time to rehab and get back on the court.
Unfortunately, he suffered another catastrophic injury. Thompson ruptured his Achilles while working out, which ended his 2020-21 season before it even began. Now, he is working toward making it back to the court.
Golden State was unable to swing a blockbuster trade this offseason to acquire another star to help take some of the pressure off of their aging core of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Thompson. As a result, the team will be relying heavily on Thompson once he is up to speed and able to perform.

When that will be is anyone’s guess. But, the one thing we do know is that Steve Kerr has settled on a replacement for Klay Thompson at the shooting guard spot to begin the season. That player will be third-year guard, Jordan Poole.
Poole has been excellent thus far through two preseason games. He scored 30 points in the preseason opener against the Portland Trail Blazers, knocking down seven 3-pointers while adding five rebounds and five assists. He also added one steal and two blocks in only 22 minutes of play.

Poole led the Golden State Warriors in scoring again in Game 2, putting up 17 points in 23 minutes of play. He added one rebound, three assists, and one steal to round out his stat line.
The former Michigan Wolverine struggled mightily as a rookie during the 2019-20 season but bounced back during his sophomore season. Now heading into his third year in the league, he looks to be ready to take that next step in his development.
