The 2020-21 season was a letdown for the Miami Heat. After making it to the NBA Finals in the 2020 Orlando Bubble, they struggled to replicate that same success the following season. The team struggled as a whole and changes were to be made during the offseason.

It sounded like one of those changes would be moving on from guard Tyler Herro. Herro’s name was included in plenty of trade rumors during the offseason, as some outlets believed there was a strong chance that he would be moved.

Ethan Skolnick of 5 Reasons Sports believed there was a 75 percent chance that Herro would be traded this past offseason. Some believed the chances were even higher of a trade being done.

With a roster void of many valuable assets, it made sense that Herro’s name would pop up in trade rumors. But, being the shrewd front office mind that he is, Pat Riley was able to upgrade without including Herro in any deals.

Herro is heading into his third season with the Heat and is ready to get things rolling again. After not taking that leap many expected in his second season, he sounds poised to do it this season.

“Mentally, I’m really locked in. Mentally, I love where I’m at,” Herro told reporters. “And then like you said, being confident is a big part of my game, and I feel like I’m confident at even another level right now. And that’s my plan for the whole season.”

Thus far in the preseason, it looks like Tyler Herro has found a new level of confidence. He scored 26 points in 26 minutes, adding four rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block in the first preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks.

In the second preseason, it was much of the same. This time coming off the bench, he scored 24 points in 25 minutes, adding nine rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

That kind of production would certainly help the Miami Heat get back to being contenders in the Eastern Conference. Whether it is coming off the bench or being part of the starting five, Herro is ready to produce in his third season in the NBA.
