The standoff between the Philadelphia 76ers and NBA All-Star Ben Simmons could be coming to an end sooner. While Simmons remains away from the team in California, they have been continuing to work the phones to find a trade partner.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, and Minnesota Timberwolves were three of the teams mentioned most prominently. But, it sounds as if the Indiana Pacers might be making some headway.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the two teams were once again engaged in trade talks. Things have come full circle, as the Pacers were the first team to offer the 76ers trade for Simmons earlier this offseason.

The Indiana Pacers reportedly offered Malcolm Brogdon and the No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft for Ben Simmons. The Philadelphia 76ers declined that trade offer at the time but sounds like they are doubling back on that offer.

In addition to Brogdon, the 76ers and Pacers have reportedly also discussed Caris LeVert as a possible trade target. According to one 76ers insider, that might actually be the best trade offer that the team will get for Simmons at this point.

“Brogdon, LeVert, and a first-round pick may not be the sexiest deal for a team that was holding out for an All-Star level player, multiple picks, and pick swaps (The multiple picks were intended to go to an additional team in a three-team deal). But that might be the best deal they can get at the moment.”

That package falls well short of what the 76ers were offering teams in exchange for Simmons, but it is a solid deal. LeVert has some injury concerns, but when healthy, produces at a high level. Brogdon is a solid two-way player that would help compensate for the loss of Ben Simmons defensively while providing more impact offensively.

Philadelphia’s front office may have had their sights set on a bigger trade package, but this could very well be the best one they receive. It will help them remain competitive and compete for a title this upcoming season. They would also still have the assets to swing a bigger trade, such as one for Damian Lillard, should the opportunity present itself down the road.
