The Los Angeles Lakers added a lot of veteran talent to their roster this NBA offseason. They rounded out their roster with players on veteran’s minimum deals, as they have eight players currently on the roster with that contract.

One of the players playing on a minimum deal that people are most excited about seeing in the purple and gold is Carmelo Anthony. After looking like he may be forced out of the league about two years ago, Anthony has shown that he still has plenty left in the tank to offer.

Anthony to the Lakers has been something people have been waiting a little while for. Once LeBron James went west, people assumed it was only a matter of time until Anthony did as well.

LeBron James teaming up with his friends Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and Anthony has been something discussed in the past but never came to fruition. He played with Wade previously and now will have the chance to play with Anthony.

Anthony has caught a bad rap at times in his career. He was labeled as some negative things by media members, which is part of the reason his career was looked over after the Houston Rockets released him.

But, after the chance the Portland Trail Blazers gave him, he is ready for whatever it is the Lakers ask him to do.

“At this point, man, whatever we need to do, let’s do it,” Anthony said following the Lakers’ third day of training camp Friday. “It ain’t … ‘I can’t sit,’ and, ‘Oh, I want to start,’ ‘I want to come off the bench.’ Whatever it is, it is.”

“I’ve had experience being a starter for 18, 17 years and had an experience of coming off the bench for one year,” Anthony said. “It’s not something I think about.”

That is a mindset Anthony didn’t always have. He was first asked about coming off the bench near the end of his Knicks tenure and he scoffed at it. His mindset has changed since then, for the better, and it will help him on his quest to win an NBA Championship.

Anthony will likely be coming off the Los Angeles Lakers’ bench, leading the second unit as its go-to scorer. With Trevor Ariza undergoing surgery and not being re-evaluated for two months, Carmelo Anthony’s role will probably be a little bigger than anticipated at the beginning of the season.

Whatever that role may be, he will be ready to perform it to the best of his abilities.
