How This Trade Impacts LA Clippers
When the Los Angeles Clippers acquired Luke Kennard from the Detroit Pistons last offseason, they signed him to a contract extension as well. He had not yet played a game for the team, but they saw enough to sign him to a four-year, $64 million extension. The last year of the deal is a team option, but Los Angeles might be looking to get out of this deal well before then.
Kennard was in and out of the rotation only months after signing that deal. When the postseason rolled around, he was not originally in the rotation, either.
The Clippers could jump at the opportunity to land a player that is more consistent in Terrence Ross. The veteran wing player doesn’t shoot 3-pointers as well as Kennard does but brings a much more diverse game to the table.
Ross would provide the team with instant offense off the bench, something they had received from Lou Williams for years before he was traded last season. Ross has rounded out his game in recent seasons, becoming a better distributor as well.

Ross only has two years remaining on his deal, so the Clippers would be saving a lot of long-term money in this deal as well. Los Angeles doesn’t necessarily need to be saving money, but being able to spend it elsewhere after jumping the gun with Kennard would be nice.
