The Dallas Mavericks came into the 2021 NBA offseason with some big goals in mind. They had their sights set on landing a difference-making All-Star in free agency, with Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry being the players they were going to target.

Very early on, it became clear neither player was going to be a realistic option. Leonard eventually re-signed with the LA Clippers while Lowry joined the Miami Heat via a sign-and-trade deal.

As a result, the Mavericks pivoted to a Plan B. They added some more shooting to the team to improve the spacing around Luka Doncic.

Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown were signed to deals, and Frank Ntilikina came on later. As a bonus, the players can also help out defensively.

But, the one thing that the Mavericks failed to acquire in their Plan B was a secondary ball-handler. Some people believe Jalen Brunson is in for a big season, but the Mavericks could have still used one more ball-handler.

In this hypothetical deal with the Chicago Bulls, they finally achieve that goal, landing Coby White in the trade.
