This Pistons-Suns Trade Is Focused On Jerami Grant

The Phoenix Suns came into the NBA offseason with one major hole to fill on their roster. They were able to re-sign all of their key free agents, but they needed to find a replacement in the frontcourt because of Dario Saric’s injury.

Saric injured his right knee in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. It was diagnosed as a torn ACL and he is in danger of missing the entire 2021-22 season because of it. With last season’s NBA Finals being in July, we likely won’t see Saric back on the court until the 2022-23 season begins.

Losing Saric is a pretty big blow to the Suns’ rotation. He provided minutes at both frontcourt spots and was the first big man off the bench. To help replace his minutes, the team signed JaVale McGee in free agency.

McGee will likely combine with Frank Kaminsky, who was re-signed, and Jalen Smith, who is entering his second season in the league, to replace Saric’s minutes. Of the three, Smith has the most upside, but the question remains if he is ready to contribute to a contending team.
