New Orleans Pelicans Receive: F Kevin Knox II
New York Knicks Receive: G/F Garrett Temple, NOP/CLE/SAC/UTA 2022 2nd Round Pick

To clear things up right off the bat, the New Orleans Pelicans currently own the rights to not just their own, but the Cavaliers and Jazz second-rounders in 2022 as well.

They could possibly end up with the Kings second-round pick (Protected 31-54) and the Hornets second-round pick (would receive Hornets 2022 2nd Round Pick and 2024 2nd Round Pick if Hornets 2022 1st Round Pick, Top-14, is not transferred to New Orleans) as well, meaning that the Pelicans could send any of these four second-round picks to the New York Knicks hypothetically, but they would most likely simply things by sending one of the three between their own, the Cavaliers and the Jazz second-round pick.

Draft pick protections can get confusing, but this trade as a whole is really pretty simple. Knox would be swapped for Garrett Temple and the Knicks would be receiving a second-round pick in 2022 for the young forward.

Temple was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans this offseason as part of a sign-and-trade deal that sent Lonzo Ball to the Chicago Bulls.

Now 35-years-old, Garrett Temple does not fit into the long-term plans of the Pelicans, even though he is a solid veteran on the wing that could help them make the playoffs this season. Upon arrival to New Orleans, Temple signed a new three-year, $15.5M deal that will keep him under contract through the 2023-24 season.

This contract is not favorable to New Orleans or to New York, but the Knicks could actually want to bring in Temple because of his ability to produce off-the-bench. In veteran wing averaged 7.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and shot 33.5% from deep last season, so he could be another experienced, “3-and-D” type of player for the Knicks to add to their rotation,
