NBA Exec Reveals The One Player Warriors Should Trade For

Golden State Warriors, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The Golden State Warriors came into the NBA offseason primed to make a blockbuster deal. They had the assets to make competitive offers for all of the big named players that popped up in rumors so that they could contend once again in the Western Conference.

Stephen Curry proved he could still play at an MVP level this season, but he does need some help. Relying too much on Klay Thompson, who is on track to return after not playing since the 2019 NBA Finals, is a recipe for disaster.

So, Bob Myers was on the hunt for an upgrade on the roster. Golden State had two lottery picks, No. 7 and 14 overall, in the 2021 NBA Draft they could use in a package.

James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft, could also have been available. Andrew Wiggins has been a popular part of mock trades involving the Warriors to help match salary.

With training camps now open, the splash move for the Warriors has yet to materialize. But, there is still a chance that it occurs. Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner is someone that an NBA executive believes Golden State should still try and trade for. Here is what he said to NBA Analysis Network’s own Evan Massey.

“Golden State was very active during the offseason and wanted to make a splash to contend now. They’re biding their time, but the interest is still there to make a big move. Myles Turner is a name I’d keep an eye on.”

Turner would be a huge upgrade in the middle for a contending team such as the Golden State Warriors. Wiseman didn’t look ready to consistently contribute to a team with championship aspirations and would be afforded the chance to develop his skills behind Turner.

Turner is a true difference-maker on the defensive end of the court with his elite rim protection. He blocked 3.4 shots per game last season and altered numerous more. Adding him to a starting five with Swiss Army Knife Draymond Green and hopefully, a healthy Thompson down the road would give Golden State one of the best defenses in the NBA.

Acquiring Myles Turner also shouldn’t break the bank for Golden State. They would likely still have some assets remaining to swing another trade, maybe for someone that can help take more of the scoring load off of Curry’s shoulders until Thompson gets up to speed.
