The Dallas Mavericks had come into the NBA regular season with a game plan on how they wanted to upgrade their roster. They had grandiose goals of landing another difference-making All-Star, setting their sights on Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry.
When it became obvious that they were not going to land either player, Dallas pivoted to Plan B. That included upgrading the 3-point shooting and defense on the team.
Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown were the biggest acquisitions in free agency. Both are great 3-point shooters and get it done on the defensive side of the ball. Tim Hardaway Jr. was also re-signed in free agency.
The one thing that Dallas failed to do this offseason was finding another secondary ball-handler. Neither Bullock nor Brown creates much off the dribble, leaving the Mavericks still seeking that kind of player. Lowry would have been an excellent addition from that standpoint and the team has also been linked to Goran Dragic.

What could a trade centered on Oubre between the Hornets and Mavericks look like? Let’s take a look at this hypothetical deal.
