The Golden State Warriors are hopeful that Klay Thompson will be able to return to the court for them this NBA season. Thompson has suffered two major injuries that have kept him away from the court for more than two years.

The last time we saw Thompson play was during the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. During Game 6 of that series, Thompson tore the ACL in his left knee. That injury caused him to miss the entire 2019-20 season.

Just as he was nearing the end of his rehab for that injury, he suffered another catastrophic injury. While working out in Los Angeles on November 18th, Thompson tore his right Achilles tendon, ending his 2020-21 season before it even began.

With training camp upon us and the regular season right around the corner, Thompson is closing in on making his much-anticipated return to the court.

Since he has been sidelined so long, he has had a lot of time to reflect on his career and it has provided him with a healthy appreciation for the game.

“I have such a healthy appreciation for this game,” Thompson said. “I don’t really gloat about my past success, but when you have a lot of time on your hands, and you watch a lot of film, sometimes you watch those and think, ‘How did I do that?’ or, ‘I can’t believe our team did this.’ That’s what inspires me while I’m doing this rehab, to do that type of stuff again.”

Thompson is one of the greatest shooters to ever play the game. He earned the Splash Brothers moniker with Stephen Curry for their exploits from behind the 3-point line, driving defenses crazy on a nightly basis.

His return to the court will help take pressure off Stephen Curry as another scoring option in the starting five. He was also their ace defender on the perimeter with his lateral quickness and size being able to neutralize backcourt and wing players.

Now 31-years old, the Golden State Warriors are hopeful that he can return close to the form he had before the injuries. A lot of their success is riding on Klay Thompson providing production as the Warriors didn’t add another impact star this offseason in a trade.
