How This Trade Impacts Golden State Warriors

At this point, it feels as if the Golden State Warriors are relying too much on Klay Thompson returning to form. He hasn’t played in an NBA game in well over two years, as the 2019 NBA Finals was the last action he saw before tearing his ACL and later rupturing his Achilles.

Acquiring someone such as Jerami Grant would take a lot of pressure from Thompson having to carry a significant load right off the bat. Grant could slide right into the starting lineup in place of Andrew Wiggins. The latter has recently found himself the center of a controversy relating to the COVID-19 vaccination and the San Francisco mandate.

He would provide Stephen Curry with a second scoring option until Thompson is up to speed. Grant also offers excellent positional versatility defensively as he can adequately defend virtually every spot on the court in some circumstances.

Kelly Olynyk got overpaid by the Pistons, but he would be able to find a nice spot in the rotation in Golden State. His floor-spacing would add dimension to the Warriors’ offense, as they don’t currently get that from any of their frontcourt players.

Olynyk isn’t a strong defender, but the Warriors have more than enough pieces to help compensate for that.

The Warriors, after this trade, are in a better position to contend for a title this season. Grant and Olynyk both have experience in the postseason, something Wiggins and Moses Moody both lack.
