Why Dallas Mavericks Do This Trade
The Dallas Mavericks came into the offseason wanting to add a secondary ball-handler alongside superstar, Luka Doncic. They have yet to accomplish that, opting instead to improve the defense and 3-point shooting on the roster.
That is a smart move given their struggles in those areas, as Dallas was 18th in 3-point percentage and finished the season 20th in defensive rating. But, if they are to truly take things to the next level, they need to get Doncic some more help and D’Angelo Russell would provide that.
Russell would provide Dallas with that secondary ball-handler that they are seeking. He has experience playing both backcourt positions, so he can transition seamlessly between handling the ball or playing off the ball depending on what the situation calls for.
He has averaged 5.3 assists per game in his career and has proven to be a good scoring guard as well. He has scored 17.6 points per game in his career and has improved as a 3-point shooter, knocking down a career-high 38.7 percent this past season.
