Jonathan Kuminga’s Outlook For 2021-22 NBA Season

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are going to have big impacts on Jonathan Kuminga’s career, especially this year, as his rookie season will basically act as a “developmental year” in a way, but the most important player to mentor Kuminga could very well end up being Andre Iguodala.

Golden State Warriors fans will be happy to see the 2015 NBA Finals MVP back in the royal blue and gold this season, but Golden State’s executives are also very happy to welcome Andre back to the Bay Area because of what he can do for a guy like Kuminga.

All his career, Iguodala has always been known to be a really effective two-way player, but entering the league in 2004, he was known as an explosive, athletic, and lengthy two-way player that was still growing, similar to the label being put on Kuminga at a young age.

Andre Iguodala has now been in the league for 17 years, he has been an All-Star, he has won three championships with the Warriors, winning the Finals MVP in 2015, and he has played in almost 1,200 career games. His experiences in this league and success will provide Jonathan Kuminga with some great lessons/teachings during his rookie season, which is why we should fully expect to see the veteran wing take the 18-year-old “under-his-wing” during the 2021-22 season.

With the recent news about Andrew Wiggins not being vaccinated and San Francisco requiring all athletes to be vaccinated in order to play a sport in the city, it is possible that Jonathan Kuminga could be thrown into the Warriors’ rotations early on in the year should Wiggins wind up missing time, but overall, we are not going to see Kuminga too much to begin the year.

Golden State knows he is still a very raw talent and as we saw with James Wiseman early on last season, they are going to slowly work Kuminga into their rotations as he continues to grow and get acclimated to their system in practices. The best part about Jonathan Kuminga right now is that he is wanting to learn as much as he can and he is only 18-years-old.

“In the future, he is going to be a key talent on both ends of the floor for the Golden State Warriors,” the league executive told NBA Analysis Network. “Kuminga is going to show flashes of his full potential at some point during the 2021-22 season and when things begin to click for this kid, it is going to be hard to keep him off the court.”
