Whenever the Dallas Mavericks acquired Kristaps Porzingis via trade from the New York Knicks in 2019, everyone thought it was a match made in heaven.
Porzingis, who was a rare big man that could shoot and protect the rim, was joining forces with an up-and-coming superstar like Doncic.
With Doncic’s willingness to get others involved, many thought Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis would be a dynamic duo for years to come. However, in their first two years together, Doncic and Porzingis haven’t consistently shown they can have success on the same team.
There were murmurs of Porzingis wanting a trade, but the change at head coach from Carlisle to Kidd convinced Porzinigs to remain in Dallas.

Given the need for the Mavericks to begin maximizing their window with Doncic, this is likely the final year for Porzingis to prove that he can coexist with Doncic.
