Would this trade make sense for the San Antoio Spurs?

It was clear that DeRozan was not going to return to San Antonio once his contract was up. It was a bit surprising to see San Antonio hang onto him as long as they did but they were ultimately able to get some pieces back. Thaddeus Young was acquired in the sign-and-trade deal and could look to flip him for other assets.

If the Spurs are able to get a first-round pick in return for Young, this deal is a no-brainer. San Antonio is in a bit of a transition. They need to acquire as many assets as possible.

As they look to regain success, Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson have the Spurs going in the right direction and that showed last season as they made a run for the playoffs.

The Western Conference is deep and the Spurs have some work to do if they want to get back to contending for titles. It has to begin with getting back to the postseason and they can do so by building the necessary depth.
