How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have a logjam on the wing and with the future financials. They cannot afford to keep everyone around, so balancing out the roster would be a smart thing for the front office to do.

Cam Reddish has been the most frequently mentioned player in trade talks. If the team is interested in upgrading the current roster and not getting a future first-round pick in return, Coby White makes for an excellent target.

White is recovering from a shoulder injury, so Atlanta may ask for some draft compensation along with him in case he cannot return to form. However, if he can get healthy, the Hawks would be getting just what they need in the backcourt.

Right now Atlanta will be relying on either Delon Wright, who doesn’t offer the same offensive impact, or rookie Sharife Cooper, who is lacking size. White would present the best of both worlds, as he has shown he can be a solid contributor offensively and at 6’5”, has enough size to play either backcourt spot.

Through two seasons, White has averaged 14.2 points per game with 3.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. He could hold down the second unit with Lou Williams from a scoring perspective with Wright bringing more of a defensive mentality to the group.

Adding White to the mix would help the Hawks balance out their roster and give them a better shot at producing when Young is resting on the bench.
