D.J. Augustin – Houston Rockets

He may not be a huge name for the Heat to add, but D.J. Augustin’s value to a team like Miami may be way higher than first imagined. The veteran point guard is going to be entering his 14th season in the NBA and while he is going to be turning 34-years-old, Augustin has always been a slept-on point guard in this league.

For his career, D.J. Augustin has averaged 9.7 points, 4.0 assists, and has shot 37.9% from three-point range, but the most impressive part of his career is the fact that he has a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.66:1.

Augustin is owed $7M this season, which may be a little high for a veteran player of his caliber, but the Houston Rockets are going to be looking to move him at some point. The Rockets are rebuilding right now and with Kevin Porter Jr. and John Wall both in their backcourt, they don’t really have a need for D.J. Augustin anymore.

In their backcourt, the Heat have Kyle Lowry as their starting point guard, but Gabe Vincent is currently listed as their back-up “point guard” with Victor Oladipo being out and Tyler Herro being classified as more of an off-the-ball shooter than a ball-handler and facilitator.

Miami is going to need to add another guard at some point to have depth behind Lowry, which is why D.J. Augustin could make sense for them in a trade.
