This MIN-GSW-PHI Trade Features Karl-Anthony Towns, Ben Simmons

The Sacramento Kings may be the “laughing stock” of the NBA for missing the playoffs in 15 consecutive seasons, most likely soon to be 16 consecutive seasons, but the Minnesota Timberwolves are not far behind them!

Minnesota made the playoffs in 2018 with Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins leading the way, but this is the only time the Timberwolves have made the postseason since the start of the 2004-05 season.

In 17 seasons, Minnesota has made the playoffs just once and since they drafted Karl-Anthony Towns first overall in 2015, they have gone a combined 185-279 (39.8%).

Creating a stable core has been a huge struggle for the T-Wolves over the years and while they do have D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, and Malik Beasley as their centerpieces now, this team still seems like they are far away from becoming a real threat.

Going out and trading for Ben Simmons would surely make the Timberwolves a legit team in the Western Conference, as they would have three former No. 1 overall picks with Simmons, Edwards and Towns, but Minnesota may not have the assets Philadelphia wants in return for their 3x All-Star.

Now set to begin his 7th season in the NBA, Karl-Anthony Towns has to begin thinking about his future in the league, even though he is under-contract in Minnesota through the 2023-24 season. If this team still does not improve this upcoming year, then there should definitely be some concern that Towns may look to continue his career elsewhere.

No trade is imminent for KAT right now and the All-Star big man does appear to be want to stay in Minnesota for now, but if he was made available in trade talks, then not only could Minnesota potentially end up with Ben Simmons, but the Timberwolves could potentially build the sustainable, young core they need to succeed moving forward.

The Golden State Warriors have been a championship-level team over the last several years, even though they have missed the playoffs the last two seasons, but they are always looking to add All-Star talent. The center position has been a big problem for Golden State over the years and if available, they would surely be interested in leveraging future assets to land Towns.

It is definitely a long shot to think about, but a trade between the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors, and Philadelphia 76ers revolving around Karl-Anthony Towns may just be crazy enough to work out for all sides.

Let’s take a look at a hypothetical trade package that would send Minnesota’s 2x All-Star center to San Francisco, resulting in Ben Simmons also being on the move from Philadelphia.
