There are certain times where two rebuilding NBA teams can get together and make a deal work. This is one of those instances with the Detroit Pistons and Oklahoma City Thunder. When looking at both teams, they are not close to competing but at least have cores to build around.

This begins with the Pistons. This year, they hit the lottery and earned the right to draft Cade Cunningham with the first-overall pick in the draft. Cunningham joined Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart, who were All-Rookie players this past season.

Detroit got younger when they parted ways with Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin, and that could continue here if they find another trade. The Pistons have been near the bottom of the Eastern Conference for years now, and they could be moving toward improvement in the East.

As for the Thunder, Sam Presti has built this team’s assets in interesting ways. The Thunder have sent away some big-name players in the past to gain draft capital. Russell Westbrook and Paul George come to mind immediately, and Chris Paul is another name that has been sent away over the years.

This is a chance for both teams to send away some assets that might not fit. Here is a potential deal between the Thunder and Pistons this offseason.
