Atlanta Hawks Receive: G/F Aaron Nesmith, F Grant Williams
Boston Celtics Receive: F Cam Reddish, ATL First-Round Pick (Top-10 Protected)
The Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks come together on this deal that involves some recent first-round picks. All three players being swapped in this deal are from the 2019 and 2020 NBA Drafts.
Heading to Atlanta are Aaron Nesmith and Grant Williams. Nesmith is a highly regarded shooter out of Vanderbilt that was selected 14th overall. Williams was the No. 26 pick in the 2019 draft out of Tennessee.
Heading back to Boston is Cam Reddish, the No. 10 pick in 2019 and a future first-round pick. Given the trajectory of the Hawks, that pick will likely convey to Boston as it is hard to imagine Atlanta landing in the top-10 of the draft soon.
Including a pick to unload Reddish makes very little sense for Atlanta. They were looking for a first-round pick of any kind in return for him, so attaching one to him would be counter-productive.

They also have great depth on their roster already. Adding two more players, especially younger ones, would complicate things more. If they were going to trade Reddish and attach a pick to him, it would be for established talent. He is still on his rookie contract, so it wouldn’t be hard to move him if they wanted to.
Neither Nesmith nor Williams has the upside that Reddish does. This trade doesn’t do much to improve the outlook for the Hawks for this season or in the future. They would likely decline this deal and hold onto Reddish hoping his playoff performance is a sign of things to come.
