The Phoenix Suns suffered a tough loss in the NBA Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks. After winning the first two games of the series, Phoenix lost four in a row, finishing as runner-up for the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

The team wasted little time in shaking up the roster to be able to make another run at the NBA Finals next season. On draft day, they acquired Landry Shamet from the Brooklyn Nets, sending Jevon Carter and the 29th overall pick to Brooklyn.

Shamet, JaVale McGee, and Eflrid Payton were the only players from outside the roster that the Suns added. A majority of the transactions that Phoenix made this offseason was retaining their players.

Chris Paul signed a huge deal to remain in the desert, signing a four-year, $120 contract. Cameron Payne, Abdul Nader, and Frank Kaminsky were all re-signed as well.

There weren’t many holes on the roster that needed filling, as Phoenix was returning a significant portion of its core. But, there is a need for a versatile forward on the roster, and it’s become something to track in trade rumors as the 2021-22 NBA season approaches.

Dario Saric injured his knee in the NBA Finals and will likely miss the 2021-22 season. Kaminsky and McGee will be tasked with filling in for him, but they do not possess the same versatility that Saric did.

One player who does is Thaddeus Young, who the Suns have reported trade interest in, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Young was already a part of one trade this offseason, heading to the San Antonio Spurs in the DeMar DeRozan sign-and-trade with the Chicago Bulls. Could he be on the move again before even suiting up for San Antonio?

Let’s take a look at what a deal between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns could look like centered around Thaddeus Young.
