The Miami Heat came into the 2021 NBA offseason ready to make some big moves. The team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, getting swept by the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks.

It was a disappointing end to the season after Miami had made it to the NBA Finals in the Orlando Bubble. Making sure that it wouldn’t happen again, Pat Riley and company got to work mapping out how they could improve the roster. It was not an easy thing to do, but they figured out a way to do it.

Miami had a lot to navigate heading into the offseason. They didn’t have a selection in the 2021 NBA Draft, so all of their changes would have to come in free agency.

Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Precious Achiuwa, and KZ Okpala were the only players with guaranteed contracts on the roster; Tyler Herro had a team option for the season that was almost certainly going to be picked up but hadn’t been made official yet.
