D.J. Augustin – Houston Rockets
He may not be a huge name for the Mavericks to add, but D.J. Augustin’s value to a team like Dallas may be way higher than first imagined.
The veteran point guard is going to be entering his 14th season in the NBA and while he is going to be turning 34-years-old, Augustin has always been a slept-on point guard in this league.
For his career, D.J. Augustin has averaged 9.7 points, 4.0 assists and has shot 37.9% from three-point range, but the most impressive part of his career is the fact that he has a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.66:1.
Augustin is owed $7M this season, which may be a little high for a veteran player of his caliber, but the Houston Rockets are going to be looking to move him at some point.

The Rockets are rebuilding right now and with Kevin Porter Jr. and John Wall both in their backcourt, they don’t really have a need for D.J. Augustin anymore.
The Mavericks could also acquire D.J. Augustin by using part of their $10.8M TPE they have from trading Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics earlier this offseason.

Augustin can shoot from the perimeter and is also a reliable facilitator off-the-bench, which is why for a low-cost of a future second-round pick, Dallas can add some experienced depth in their backcourt.
