As the Golden State Warriors head into training camp, they have their sights set on returning to contender status this season. After making five consecutive NBA Finals and winning three of them, the Warriors have missed the postseason two straight years.
The Warriors have dealt with a multitude of injuries the last two seasons, with Klay Thompson being the biggest loss. Thompson hasn’t played since the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. He tore his ACL in that series, knocking him out for the 2019-20 season. He then ruptured his Achilles, ending his 2020-21 season.
So, it will be more than two years since Thompson last took the court in an NBA game when he returns this season. Golden State is hoping he can return to form, but it will take some time.
He will have to get back up to speed and knock off the rust. There is no amount of practice that can replicate the speed and physicality of an NBA game.

The Warriors are hoping their younger players can step up and help push the team back to being contenders. James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall pick in 2020 will be joined by Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, the No. 7 and 14 overall selections in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Those three can make up the new core for Golden State going into the future as their aging core of Stephen Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green move into the back ends of their careers.
If those three are not ready to contribute to a contending team, Bob Myers won’t be afraid to make moves to get players that will help. Here are three players the Golden State Warriors can target in trades heading into training camp.
