The New York Knicks didn’t have widespread changes to their roster this season as many had predicted. Armed with the most cap space in the NBA and multiple first-round draft picks, many expected New York to make a splash.

The old Knicks would have made that splash. Even if the move didn’t fit the timeline or build of the franchise, they would have gone out of their way to make a deal. The new regime, led by Leon Rose, is different.

Rose and Willam Wesley stuck to the plan they had in place. They didn’t force anything, letting the pieces fall where they may.

While that resulted in some people believing they had a poor offseason, the Knicks are a better team, today, than when they were eliminated from the postseason by the Atlanta Hawks.

New York acquired more future assets by trading back in the 2021 NBA Draft multiple times, coming away with four prospects; Quentin Grimes, Rokas Jakubaitis, Deuce McBride, and Jericho Sims. They all fit the mold of what the Knicks are looking for in their players.

In free agency, New York was able to retain a majority of its free agents. Nerlens Noel, Derrick Rose, Alec Burks, and Taj Gibson were all brought back.

Elfrid Payton and Reggie Bullock departed but were replaced by Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier. New York also got two second-round picks from the Boston Celtics to sign Fournier to create a traded player exception.

The roster is deeper, which will mean fierce competition at multiple positions. But the Knicks could still look to shuffle some things up. Here is one wing player that they could land from the Indiana Pacers.
