Does this trade make sense for Indiana Pacers?

The Indiana Pacers are going to be looking to trade Jeremy Lamb since he is in the final year of his contract and is owed an unfavorable $10.5M for the 2021-22 season.

Moving him for Kyle Anderson definitely gives the Pacers more forward depth and a better chance to be a real playoff team in the Eastern Conference this upcoming year, but this trade may not be worthwhile at the expense of a first-round and second-round pick over the next two years.

Given all the injuries they have suffered over the years, the Pacers are in a tough position as a franchise because if they do not make the playoffs or get swept in the first round, their roster is going to get torn apart and rebuilt.

They definitely have a lot of high-level talents in Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert, T.J. Warren, Domantas Sabonis, and Myles Turner, but these five guys have not played together because of all the injuries this team has dealt with.

T.J. Warren is likely going to be out to begin the season, which means the Pacers will automatically be down a key player in their rotations.

Adding Kyle Anderson definitely supplies this team with a “security blanket” since he is a reliable player on both ends of the floor, but at the same time, this 2023 first-round pick that Indiana would trade to Memphis could be valuable.

If the Pacers tear things down in the offseason and look to rebuild a little bit, then they will need this first-round pick they are giving up which is why this trade may not make much sense long-term. In the short term though, adding Anderson is a good move for the Pacers in terms of adding more talent to try and win now.

This is definitely a tough decision for the Indiana Pacers to make, as they would have to choose between now and the future, but since they are always dealing with injuries, it is probably smart for the Pacers to deal Lamb and draft picks for Kyle Anderson now.
