The last handful of seasons have not been kind to the Indiana Pacers, as everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. They made the playoffs five consecutive NBA seasons from 2016-20, but they lost in the first round each of these seasons, and the Indiana Pacers missed the playoffs this past season after losing to the Washington Wizards in the 8-seed play-in game.
Not to mention, the Pacers have been decimated by injuries over the years. Malcolm Brogdon, Domantas Sabonis, and Myles Turner all missed time here and there during the 2020-21 season last year, and TJ Warren basically missed the entire season, as he played in just four games before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
With Rick Carlisle back as the head coach of the Pacers after coaching the Mavericks for the last 13 seasons, as well as everyone but TJ Warren healthy to begin the year, the Pacers have a chance to be a threat once again. However, they may still need to make some moves midseason to set themselves up for playoff success.
CJ McCollum has always been a player that the Pacers have monitored in trade chatter, and by midseason, if things are not going the way they had imagined, could they look to swap Malcolm Brogdon for McCollum?

Brogdon is a former Rookie of the Year and has turned himself into a real threat on both ends of the court, so he could definitely be someone that Portland wants to pair with Damian Lillard in hopes of keeping the MVP candidate in Portland long-term.
The Oklahoma City Thunder could also include themselves in this deal since they could be willing to take on a contract the Indiana Pacers no longer want on their roster. Let’s take a look at a hypothetical midseason trade between the Pacers, Blazers, and Thunder not only involving Malcolm Brogdon but C.J. McCollum as well.
