Isaiah Thomas

I really do not see how you cannot root for a guy like Isaiah Thomas because he is such a great human being! From being drafted dead-last in the 2011 NBA Draft to proving he can still be an All-Star at just 5’9” to losing his sister during the 2016-17 season, Isaiah Thomas’ whole basketball career has been defined by battling adversity.

After the 2016-17 season, a year in which many forget that Thomas averaged 28.9 points, 5.9 assists, and shot 37.9% from deep in Boston, Thomas was traded to the Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving, but things didn’t work out too well for him after leaving the Celtics.

Isaiah Thomas played with the Cavs and Lakers during the 2017-18 season, but then teams began to give up on him due to ongoing hip problems.

In May 2020, Thomas underwent a hip procedure to fix a problem that had been impacting him since 2017. Now, the former 60th overall pick is looking to make a comeback in the NBA and is looking to prove that he can still be a valuable asset for any team in the league.

He played just 3 games with the Pelicans last season on a 10-day contract and since then, he has been looking to prove himself, as he recently scored 81 points at the Crawsover Pro-Am. The 32-year-old point guard has not given up hope about an NBA comeback yet, but his options may be very limited.

The Los Angeles Lakers were interested in bringing in Thomas with one of their final roster spots, but now with the recent buyout of Rajon Rondo from the Grizzlies, all indications point to a reunion between the Lakers and the former All-Star guard, so they will likely not be interested in Isaiah Thomas anymore.

However, do not count out a possible midseason return to the Boston Celtics. Thomas is absolutely adored by the Celtics’ fanbase and they could have a possible need for another point guard at some point. I am not saying this is going to happen by any means, but if there is one team that would want to bring Thomas back into the league, it might as well be the Celtics.
