Buddy Hield – Sacramento Kings

On draft night this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings seemed to have a deal in place that would send Buddy Hield to Los Angeles for a trade package that consisted of Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, and others, but this deal ultimately fell through when the Lakers instead decided to add Russell Westbrook. 

Now, after knowing he was almost traded, Buddy Hield remains on the Kings roster in what seems to be an awkward situation.

Buddy Hield and the Kings have not really seen “eye-to-eye” on things over the years, and there have been issues that they have dealt with in regards to the sharpshooting wing, which is why a trade is still definitely in play. 

Sacramento has missed the playoffs for 15 consecutive years, and this upcoming season will likely be the 16th consecutive season in which they miss the playoffs.

Buddy Hield’s contract is something Sacramento would probably like to move on from at this point, and both he and his agent probably do not want to remain on the Kings too much longer either since they do not want him. 

Hield is owed $61.5M over the next three seasons, but there could still be some teams around the league interested in trading for him since he has averaged 16.0 points per game over the course of his career and has shot 40.6% from three-point range.

Other than the Lakers, there are no known teams that expressed interest in trading for Buddy Hield this offseason, but he is definitely a player that needs to be moved and could be traded before the start of the 2021-22 season.
