The Los Angeles Lakers have jumped into the buyout market for the second time already this NBA offseason. After signing Rajon Rondo following his buyout from the Memphis Grizzlies, Los Angeles dipped back in to sign DeAndre Jordan,

The Lakers will technically be the second team that Jordan has moved to this offseason. The Brooklyn Nets traded him recently to the Detroit Pistons, along with four future second-round picks and cash, in exchange for Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya. It was a cost-cutting move for Brooklyn, saving a ton of money off their tax bill moving on from Jordan.

Jordan didn’t last very long in Detroit, as they bought him out. Jordan gave back $4 million in the buyout to hit the open market. Once he cleared waivers, he agreed to a one-year deal to join the Lakers.

Jordan joins a depth chart that is rather crowded at the center position. Dwight Howard and Marc Gasol are already on the roster. With rumors swirling about Gasol’s future, this move may indicate that he will be moving on at some point soon, and Jordan is his replacement.
