Does this trade make sense for the Spurs and Thunder?
Moving on from both Thaddeus Young and Al-Farouq Aminu is something we could see the Spurs look to do before the start of the season, especially since neither guy really holds value to this young team. Young is now 33-years-old and Aminu is 30-years-old, making them both expendable players the Spurs could look to leverage.
Thaddeus Young definitely holds a fair amount of value, which is why getting a player like Kristaps Porzingis in return for him and some other assets definitely makes sense, but it is very unlikely that the Dallas Mavericks will look to trade him right now.
It seems much more likely that the Suns are the team that could make a real run at Thad Young, but this trade does make a little bit of sense for the Spurs in the sense of trading their veteran contracts, especially Aminu.
Trading Aminu makes sense not only for the Spurs but for the Thunder as well, as they still need to absorb some more contracts as “dead weight” on their roster.
Overall though, San Antonio is not in a rush to make a big move at the moment and there really is no need for them to absorb a large contract like Kristaps Porzingis’.

The best thing the Spurs can do right now is to just focus on developing their young talents and figuring out what the future holds for them as an organization now that they are officially rebuilding.
