The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t had many bright spots in recent NBA seasons since LeBron James left, again, and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. There has been a lot of losing, as the 22 games they won this past season is the most victories in a season since James departed.

With all of the losing, Cleveland has been near the top of the lottery multiple times. But, one of the bright spots has been their backcourt. Collin Sexton and Darius Garland are two of the building blocks for Cleveland, or so we thought.

This offseason, there was a lot of chatter about Sexton’s long-term status with the organization. There was talk that he could be on his way out of town via trade as the two sides were far apart on extension talks.

Sexton has his shortcomings, and when negotiations are ongoing, those are likely to be highlighted by a team looking to save as much money as possible.

This past season, he is coming off a career-best 24.3 points per game on a tidy shooting split of .475/.371/.815. His assist numbers did go up, so he is making improvements.

The talent here can be molded and developed as Sexton is only 22 and will turn 23 in January. If the Cleveland Cavaliers continue shopping him, plenty of teams should be involved in those trade talks.
