Phoenix Suns: Wesley Matthews

Bringing in JaVale McGee and Landry Shamet were two big moves the Suns made to upgrade their roster in the offseason, but they still have an open roster spot to utilize should they choose to do so.

Adding McGee clears up their depth in the frontcourt, and adding Landry Shamet and Elfrid Payton in their backcourt gives them more depth, so maybe the Suns will look to add a veteran wing behind both Mikal Bridges and Jae Crowder.

James Ennis III is definitely a guy they could consider, much like the Lakers, but Wesley Matthews, a former Laker himself, would be a solid addition to this team’s bench. Phoenix is coming off an NBA Finals run, and they are looking to prove this was not a fluke, which is why Matthews could be a valuable commodity for them.

Not only does he bring years of experience of playing in this league as a solid three-point shooter, but he also spent last season with the Lakers and knew a lot about how they run plays. His knowledge could definitely benefit the Suns, but he also fits the mold of guys like Langston Galloway and E’Twaun Moore, two veteran wings the Suns had on their roster last season.

He probably would not play much during the 2021-22 season for Phoenix, but overall, Wesley Matthews has shot 37.9% from three-point range over the course of his now 12-year NBA career, and he’s more than capable of playing his role if his number is called.

The Suns may keep 14 guys on their roster to begin the season, but for a 15th spot, Wesley Matthews definitely makes sense for the Phoenix Suns.
