Killian Hayes
Troy Weaver has come in and cleaned house as the general manager of the Detroit Pistons. How much of an overhaul has he overseen? Killian Hayes, the 7th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is the longest-tenured player on the team at about 10 months.
Weaver has done an outstanding job bringing in his own players and beginning to shape the roster in his vision. In just two offseasons, he has put together quite a solid group of young players that they are hoping is the next core for the franchise.
Hayes is expected to be a part of that young core, but his sophomore season is a make-or-break campaign for him. He struggled with injuries and consistency as a rookie, as he was inefficient in shooting the ball and turned the ball over at a very high rate.
A .353/.278/.824 shooting split with a 28.5 turnover percentage just isn’t going to cut it. Now, he is facing a potential change in his usage on the team as Detroit landed the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and selected Oklahoma State star, Cade Cunningham.

Second-year players are rarely in a make-or-break scenario, but Hayes is. He just turned 21-years old, but If he cannot improve his play alongside Cunningham, Weaver will find someone who can.
