The San Antonio Spurs acquired Thaddeus Young in a sign-and-trade that sent DeMar DeRozan to the Chicago Bulls, but the Spurs do not seem to want to hold onto the veteran big man. His name has been coming up in trade rumors recently, and the Spurs do need to cut down on their roster size, so could Young rejoin his former team in the Indiana Pacers?

The now 14-year NBA veteran spent three seasons in Indiana from 2016-2019 and was a solid secondary talent, averaging 11.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and shooting 51.3% from the floor.

Thaddeus Young has always been a really reliable frontcourt option everywhere he has been in this league, but the biggest underrated part of his game is the fact that he plays great one-on-one defense.

Whether out on the perimeter or in the low-post, Young always seems to do his job, which is why the Pacers could be interested in re-acquiring him if they were to trade Myles Turner. In this trade, not only does Indiana get Young, but they would also end up with Davis Bertans and a protected first-round pick from the Spurs.

Thad Young gives Indiana some stability in their frontcourt alongside Domantas Sabonis, and Davis Bertans would supply the Pacers with much-needed perimeter shooting.

Last season, the Pacers only shot 36.4% from deep as a team, which was the 17th best team shooting percentage. Bertans alone shot 39.5% from deep, making him a key perimeter threat for Indiana now that Doug McDermott is gone.

The Pacers would also unload Jeremy Lamb and his $10.5M contract for the 2021-22 season. Indiana has been looking to move the veteran wing, so being able to trade him in this deal to get two key secondary talents and a first-round draft pick definitely makes sense.
