Does this trade make sense for Orlando Magic?
Again, much like the Washington Wizards, this trade really depends on what both teams are thinking. The Wizards could want to cut some cap space by moving Davis Bertans, but do the Orlando Magic really want to acquire a player owed $65M over the next four seasons?
That contract will tie up a lot of available funds the Magic may have over the years. Since they have seven players on rookie contracts during the 2021-22 season, Orlando will have available cash over the next few years to surround their young players with other notable talents.
Absorbing salaries when you are rebuilding is not necessarily the best thing to do, which is why this trade probably does not make sense for the Magic.
Getting something for Mo Bamba and Michael Carter-Williams on expiring contracts could be something they look to do at the NBA trade deadline, but overall, the Magic would much rather have draft picks than large contracts like Bertans’.

Not to mention, the Magic would be giving up a second-round pick in this deal to get Davis Bertans. Overall, there are better deals Orlando can be a part of to move Bamba and Carter-Williams if they wanted to, which is why this trade with Washington makes little sense for them.
