3 Teams Who Should Make Push To Acquire Jaden McDaniels

While they have not made any free agent signings this NBA offseason, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been pretty busy adding secondary talent to their roster.

Minnesota has added Patrick Beverley after trading away Ricky Rubio earlier in the offseason, and they also added Taurean Prince as a combo-forward on the wing.

Both guys will help make the Timberwolves better defensively during the 2021-22 season, but there are still some holes to fill on this roster. Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, and Malik Beasley make up a strong-looking core, but the T-Wolves may not be done making some trades to add more talent to their roster.

This team has won just 36% of their total games since the 2004-05 season, and they have made the playoffs just once in 2018.

Adding another high-level talent to this roster seems like something the Timberwolves’ management is interested in, hence why they have such a high interest in Sixers All-Star Ben Simmons. Still, the 76ers seem unwilling to trade him to Minnesota given their lack of overall assets.

If they cannot land Ben Simmons, the Timberwolves will need to turn their attention to filling out their roster with talented players another way, which is why Jaden McDaniels could be dangled as trade bait.

Last year, McDaniels was drafted 28th overall by Minnesota and put together a solid rookie season, averaging 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and shooting 36.4% from the floor in about 24 minutes per game.

This offseason, the 20-year-old forward participated in the Las Vegas Summer League for Minnesota and was spectacular in the four games he played in.

Jaden McDaniels averaged 16.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.0 blocks, and shot 49% from the floor in Las Vegas, giving him a lot of potential to have a grand breakout “sophomore” season in the league.

The Timberwolves love what they have in their young power-forward, but could they look to leverage him to add more talent to their roster? Should McDaniels be available in trade talks, these three teams should absolutely make a push to acquire him.
