The Atlanta Hawks are coming off one of their best seasons in recent history during the 2020-21 NBA campaign. After a slow start, they picked things up and finished the season with a bang.
Atlanta went 14-20 under Lloyd Pierce to begin the season before he was fired as head coach. Nate McMillan took over as interim head coach after that and the Hawks took off.
Atlanta won their first nine games with McMillan leading the way, finishing the season with a 27-11 record. They went 41-31 overall, which was tied with the New York Knicks. The Knicks earned the fourth seed because of a tiebreaker with the Hawks, but Atlanta prevailed in their first-round matchup.
They didn’t stop there, as the Hawks defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the postseason. They ultimately fell to the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Finals, but there were a lot of positives to build upon.
