The Denver Nuggets have seen Michael Porter Jr. develop into being a fringe NBA star and a long-term building block for the franchise. While he could be a long-term fixture in Denver, a new contract will need to get done. Both sides have been talking about a potential deal and it seems like things are moving in the right direction.
In a quote shared by Mike Singer of the Denver Post, Porter opened up about how discussions have been going and it all sounds like good news for the Nuggets and their fans.
“Everything is sounding great, in the direction that I’d like to be headed,” Porter said. “Nothing is set in stone, but everything is going smooth as far as that goes.”
As of right now, the Nuggets have a core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Porter. They also have good pieces in Aaron Gordon, Will Barton, and Monte Morris. Denver is banking on Porter continuing to develop to become a legitimate “big three” with Murray and Jokic.

During the 2020-21 NBA season with Denver, Porter ended up playing in 61 games and starting in 54 of those appearances. He averaged 19.0 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.9 blocks, and 0.7 steals. Porter shot 54.2 percent from the floor overall and knocked down a sizzling 44.5 percent of his three-point attempts.
His three-point shooting has become something that will make Porter a lot of money on his next contract. He has become a legitimate sniper from behind the arc. That is a skill-set that the Nuggets definitely need to try to keep around.

Porter is just 23 years old, which is the age some rookies are coming into the league. That gives him plenty of time to continue developing his game. If he reaches his full potential, the Nuggets could very well have a superstar on their hands.
Only time will tell whether or not the Nuggets and Michael Porter Jr. can get a contract extension done. However, this is very good news for Denver and things seem to be trending in the right direction.
