Sacramento Kings general manager Monte McNair is in a tough spot. He is under pressure to upgrade the roster, as the team hasn’t made the postseason in 15 years. That ties the longest streak in the NBA, which was held by the Buffalo Braves/San Diego Clippers/Los Angeles Clippers from 1977-1991.
Kings’ owner Vivek Ranadive has a track record of strong-arming his general managers into acquiring players that he wants on the team. He did it with Pete D’Alessandro upon taking over the job in June of 2013.
Ranadive wanted Rudy Gay and made sure he got the guy he wanted. He called D’Alessandro every day until he finally made the trade. While history has not repeated itself yet in that fashion, McNair has to be feeling under the gun a little bit.
According to the Sacramento Bee, McNair is beginning to feel the heat from Ranadive in August. At this time, there just isn’t much he can do with the current assets that he is working with.
