Atlanta fired Lloyd Pierce after they began the season 14-20. McMillan was named interim head coach and the team immediately took off, winning the first nine games that he was the leading man for.
Atlanta finished the season 27-11 with McMillan at the helm and earned the No. 5 seed with a 41-31 record. Their great play continued in the postseason, as they defeated the New York Knicks in five games in the first round and won Game 7 on the road against the Philadelphia 76ers in Round 2.
They fell in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks in six games, but it was an impressive showing nonetheless. But, to remain one of the top teams in the league, there are some tough decisions ahead.
